Released on the Norwegian record label Kropp uten Grenser as part of a forthcoming single compilation called Sporløst, Oslo’s Ricc Nixxon comes through with “Pusher,” a disorienting, energetic whisper-rap transmission from the underbelly of the Norwegian rap scene. The track is produced by the Bronx-based Xion Orion; if you look up the producer on YouTube, you will find a whole body of evil jerk type beats, the kind that would work perfectly for, say, Xaviersobased or Nettspend. Within the Oslo underground, Ricc Nixxon is one of the few on this wave. It’s rap music for those who feed off urgent and unbridled sonic chaos.

Lyrically, “Pusher” is all over the place. It sounds like the result of an overstimulated and restless brain attempting to capture ideas that vanish just as quickly as they enter. As with many songs of this nature, it’s not necessarily about what’s being said, but how it’s said. The accelerating breathing ad-libs make the track feel like the beginning of a panic attack. Only, this panic attack leads to the revelation that it is time to turn up.

“Pusher” is accompanied by a gritty video captured in the heart of Oslo. It matches the fast paced, unfiltered energy of the song. Peep the video, which was shot and edited by Kropp uten Grenser and the Oslo-based dj and producer Chris Helberg—also known as spr1te—below.
