One of the tags for “Rent Price Up,” the new single from Berlin-based artist Soraya, is #donk. I’m not going to lie, that piqued my interest. If there is one thing that I love in this world, one thing that I can count on in a confusing, ever-shifting landscape, both cultural and political, it is that things get better when a donk gets put on something—anything, really. (For those not familiar with the power of donk, I would consult both this music video and this documentary.) And “Rent Price Up” puts a fucking donk on it! It’s a speedy dance tune that lyrically tackles the thorniest of issues: maybe people come to cities for holiday; maybe they stay; maybe the rent prices go up.
