There is headphone music, and then there is headphone music. Orchestroll’s debut mini-LP, Hyperwide Lustre, is seven tracks of detailed electronic investigations. Though the Québécois duo of Richard-Robitaille and Osborne-Lanthier tiptoe around various styles of dance and experimental music, genre is not exactly the point here. The record’s sound design, at once luscious and prickly, seems to guide its structural choices. IDM heads will find a lot to like, no doubt—especially on LP closer “Succubus Ripcord.”
