Out here in the Midwest—scene report—the weather is winsome; “Sideline,” the new sophisticated synth-forward pop single from Athens act Chairs, is providing my morning soundtrack. Written by frontman Marcel Sletten, the tune tips its fedora to everything from blog-damaged chillwave to elegant British action. The synths alone make me want to jump into a convertible with the top down and pop a few cheese curds into my mouth. Who cares if it’s a little drizzly out? The sun is peaking through the clouds. Anyway: right here, right now, I’m going to step into full-on music blogger mode, and I’m going to hit you with a word to describe the layered combination of synths and pianos that define this track: swirling. Boom boom boom! This is what it’s all about, people. Good tune!
