Simple clock-like percussion and intermittent, warm vinyl scratches serve as the platform for Meetka’s composition to slowly breathe against you. Feels as much like waking up as it does like going to bed. A slight departure from 2021’s Lateen, which stuck primarily to a piano driven palette, Boarding Gate doesn’t stray too far from Meetka’s characteristic nocturnal sound.
According to Meetka, the track is “a love song about watching planes take off and land.” Here, there is slight dissonance that leads the listener to resolution, as Lateen mostly stuck to ‘beautiful’. There are still nods to Ambient Music for Airports and Endless Summer, hinting at this record being a welcome staple in the catalog of oddly familiar excellent Ambient. Even the title, Boarding Gate, suggests that the upcoming record from New York City’s Meetka will be a sonorous journey. Don’t touch that dial!
