'Intelligent' Dance Music, the genre that always seems to have a white face and comes with a whole lot of assumptions about what's considered Intelligent and why.

The way I currently feel about IDM is very similar to how Julius Eastman felt about Classical music. It's a genre that centers on the sounds and traditions of white male musicians, and discards or disqualifies anything that doesn't fit a very narrow profile. A space that demands a respect for ideas that represent only a small minority of people, yet seem to be implemented as rules for everyone to follow.

This is where I come in.

With all my Black, faggot rage, I decided that it's time for me to confront what I see, and bring a Black perspective to the conversation. That's what Avant Marbe is. I want to break the rules, challenge the status quo, and force people to examine their own biases towards dance music made by Black people.

Avant Marbe is street smart in the way it approaches IDM, Techno, and Electronic as a whole. Instead of sticking with four on the floor, I infused every song with syncopated rhythms taken directly from New Jack Swing. If you don't know what New Jack Swing is, you're already behind.

The language for what I'm doing has evolved, I call the sound of Avant Marbe, Neojaque.

Available on February 6th.
