Label Mix 012 comes from Slagwerk, a vanguard of the new digital experimental music landscape. Founded by Otis Dehaes in 2017, this Brussels-based label and event series represents a fusion of love, dedication, and an uncanny knack for discovering and nurturing underground talent, while embracing an ever-evolving digital ethos.

Otis’s ear has taken Slagwerk 18 releases deep, cementing the label as a hub for experimental music that’s so delightful to listen to, the term “experimental” almost feels wrong, but it isn’t. “Some people might hear some consistency in the output, but I have not necessarily intended it that way,” Otis told Nina.

Releases from artists like Money Lang, Color Plus, Ange Halliwell, Dasychira, and many more have cemented Slagwerk as a destination for internet music heads looking for a fix of strange, warm, and beautiful music that defies easy categorization. Otis said his Nina label mix “recaps the label’s different emotions throughout the years.”

Where are you based?

Schaarbeek, Brussels.

Can you describe your label mix?

All music from the discography that sort of recaps the label’s different emotions throughout the years.

What inspired you to start a label?

A combination of love, dedication and my inability to make music :-)

Does your label have a sound or a mission?

Maybe its character lies in the lack of a clear direction. It has evolved a lot in every sense and will probably continue to do so. Some people might hear some consistency in the output, but I have not necessarily intended it that way.

Tell us about your scene(s).

It’s funny, since it’s so internet based it’s very niche but very worldwide at the same, resulting in a very exciting network of friends and artists that allows you to go places. Hence us being in NYC rn.

What's your A&R process?

A lot of emailing unfortunately :/

What labels do you look up to?

Boomerang!
