Per her fabulous early aughts-inspired website, Jessie Everill is an “audio engineer, technology lover, fashion enthusiast, and very spontaneous person.” The Halifax, Nova Scotia artist also makes bitpop emo under the moniker idialedyournumber. Everill’s 2025 album, Mourning Glow, is an amalgamation of glittery earworm hooks and floaty melodies, filtered through VHS static, stylish without losing bedroom project heart. We sent Everill some questions about that aforementioned website, Canada, and her upcoming project. We also touch on her guitar, which is adorned with multiple eBay logos, like a roving step-and-repeat. Read the answers and listen to Mourning Glow, below.

Your website also functions as a blog—what does that practice give you that music can’t?

My blog serves as an additional medium to dump my random thoughts, ideas, and even advertisements for my music and tours. It is simply another way to connect with an audience and myself. When I was a kid, blogging seemed so fascinating (especially the UI design aspect), so I immediately lived out that dream as soon as I could.

Do you want to clear up any misconceptions people have about Canadians? Bonus question—what do you think about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau?

Nope. I live in an igloo, and the only things in my fridge are maple syrup and bagged milk. :) What do I think about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau? I think Katy Perry should date me instead. I can be a California girl. Not to mention she kissed a girl and liked it … Real talk, I thought that was such a weird couple when I first found out, lol.

How many numbers do you have memorized well enough to dial? 

Aside from the obvious ones like emergency health services, I have the Canadian Kids Help Phone number (from elementary school assemblies), my parents numbers, my partner’s number, Greco’s number (from commercials), and 🎵867-5309🎵! There’s probably a few more that aren’t coming to mind.

What inspired your visual album? What was it like watching it on a big screen?

My good friend Malcolm MacMaster and I initially made the “Bunny Goes 2 Business School” music video for funsies, then one day we were like, “bro, a visual album would go so hard.” Plus, the storylines in the visual album definitely match the events leading up to recording Hourglass. Malcolm totally nailed it. Watching the visual album on a big screen was a huge, monumental moment for Malcolm and I, especially while we were surrounded by friends and family. If only I had my Accutane treatment before filming it.

Is there anything fans can do to make touring a more pleasant experience for you and your band?

Sadly, the only real setback in touring is ca$h money. Fans are extremely accommodating and I can’t thank them enough for all the help they have generously given us on tour. Letting us crash in their house, pet their cats, tolerating my sniffling all night (I have a horrible cat allergy), finding awesome local bands to play shows with us, buying merch, singing along, etc. It’s just so beautiful how this community comes together. Fans do enough. We need better funding for the arts in general because it’s so prominent in everyone’s life. That’s a whole different conversation though. ＾＿ －）≡★

What’s the best onstage outfit you’ve worn recently? 

I’m so lost when it comes to that. I spend ages picking out an outfit, then as soon as the pictures come out, I’m like “why did I wear that?” I typically lean towards grungy or girly styles. I like to wear dresses and baggy clothes. I have an all-leather outfit that I kind of like. 

How did your eBay guitar come to be? Have you made any crazy eBay purchases?

The day I got my Squire Telecaster, I covered the pickguard in holographic tape. It looks dope, especially with lights. A few months later, I went thrifting with my keyboardist/bestie Maury, and they found 4 rolls of white eBay tape. I was kindly gifted one, and my first thought was to put it all over my guitar (because I love the colourful logo). I’ve never ordered from eBay in my life. ⁀⊙෴☉⁀.

On your blog, you said your next album will be hi-fi. Is there anything else you can tell us about it?

It’s going to be pretty cool. More structured than the last albums, but still maintaining that emotionally raw, DIY writing vibe. The only difference is that the drums are real. I like how it’s coming along so far, and I hope you do too!
