TUMBIZA is a recent collaborative EP from the Ugandan artists hydra:bad and Swordman Kitala. This is clanging, imaginative business, rhythmically dense and fueled by Swordman Kitala’s commanding dancehall-indebted vocals. Though hydra:bad’s beats often rest in a space between the African house offshoot gqom and more contemporary East Coast club, they retain a gritty edge that seems ideal for slightly blown-out soundsystem play the world over. Lead track “Jungle Fever” sets the tone, hitting halfway between Steven "Lenky" Marsden and Wolf Eyes.
