It’s great to hear new music from Dubbel Dutch. The producer, who was behind some of the most crucial forward-thinking dance cuts of the 2010s, is back with his second release of the year after an extended absence from the game, and we are happy to report that he hasn’t lost his fastball. Anthems From The Abyss is an 8-track joyride that smashes up style—rave; grime; UK funky; house—in a way that will be familiar to anyone who ever wore a snapback to a Night Slugs or Fade To Mind party. If those references are too niche, just know that this is great, pan-genre dance music that is timeless in both its approach to experimentation and its commitment to delivering the goods. Highlights include the breaky, bleepy “Invasive Species” and the buoyant chipmunk soul of “My Way.” Welcome back, Dubbel Dutch!
