Real Nina soldiers know that Betty Hammerschlag is one of the coolest artists in the world right now. Her new comp of deconstructed club loosies, TYPE SHIT, is among my favorite releases of the year. The song "TYPE SHIT 06" in particular is a marvel of loop-based hypnotism that almost sounds like footwork without the rhythmic undergirding. Brilliant stuff.

I tried finding more info about Hammerschlag and realized that she'd never done an interview before. So I asked and she agreed to let me ask her a few questions for my site Chasing Sundays. According to her, this will be her first and only interview.

I asked her about her life, her background, her process, her taste, her artistic ideology – and her sage-like responses left me with more questions than answers. Even so, I learned a good bit about Hammerschlag's relationship to music, to nature, and to the internet, and Chasing Sundays subscribers can read the exclusive interview below.
