Gelli Haha’s world is colorful, theatrical, and sprinkled with disco fairydust. The artist and performer, who hails from Idaho but is currently based in Los Angeles, has developed a rep for one of the best live shows in the game, with the tunes to match. So we had to hit her up to ask about some of her personal Best Songs for very specific situations. She gives us a little dance music, a little pop music, and reps Idaho legends Built to Spill. "Jellyhead (Motiv8's Pumphouse Remix)” by Crush 

More like Gelli Head am I right? Judi Haha showed me this song last year. It’s been a Gelli anthem since.

Best song that makes you feel like you are about to be abducted by aliens?

"Looking from a Hilltop" by Section 25 

I found this song last year. It’s fun and weird and experimental. Definitely feels suitable for alien abduction.

Best song that was produced by Giorgio Moroder? 

"I Feel Love" by Donna Summer 

Duh lol. This song is iconic! It showcases the best of both Donna and Giorgio and created a disco classic.

Best song by an Idaho band or artist? 

"Carry The Zero" by Built to Spill 

I'm so cliche but "Carry The Zero" always makes me feel like I'm in Boise watching the sun set at Treefort Music Fest. Honorable mention to "Idaho Alien" by Youth Lagoon. Idaho rules.

Best song with a really good music video? 

"Bachelorette" by Björk 

The music video for this track is super surreal and was directed by longtime Björk video collaborator Michel Gondry. It explores the concept of self reference and the Droste effect (a picture within a picture)—Bjork finds a book in a garden and it begins to write itself and it leads her on this strange journey. You just gotta see for yourself!

Best song that often gets stuck in your head?

"L.U.C.K.Y" by Fcukers

This song has literally been trapped in my brain the last couple months. I wake up with this song in my head. So catchy!

Best song that inspires you to make stuff?

"Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush 

The vocals on this song are always such a pleasure to sing. The lyrics, the music … Everything is so well done. It’s wild to me that this was her debut single.

Best song by Animal Collective?

Every song on Merriweather Post Pavilion. They make such special music I hate to pick a favorite. This album is so cohesive and everything compliments each other. The album feels like one beautiful, twisted song to me.

Best song that makes you think about the color red?

"Beyond Love" by Beach House 

It might be surprising to know that Beach House is a longtime favorite band of mine. Depression Cherry is one of my favorite albums and “Beyond Love” is one of my favorite tracks on it. The album artwork is a dark red, not really Gelli red but this is probably (besides my own work) the music that makes me feel the most red.

Best song for dancing in a nightclub?

"She Can't Love You" by Chemise 

I love playing this track when I DJ. It’s fun, funky electro. It's also a bit longer so you can keep the groove going for a while.
